Unemployment

After I started this blog, I wasn’t sure what direction to take. Do I write about politics and expose my Palinic knowledge of our federal government? Do I write about the first African American President? I’m too white.

My topic was defined for me yesterday when I became another victim to the economic downturn the United States and the world is experiencing. Since September 23, we have gone from a DINK (dual income no kids) household to a NINK (no income no kids) couple. We are unemployed.

Fortunately, we’re frugal and have always lived below our income. Unfortunately, what I didn’t spend was invested in mutual funds and 401Ks. The savings account is meager. Now, my mutual funds are decreasing in value each day.

Suddenly, we’re living above our income of zero dollars a week. Budgeting the remaining monies we have will be essential to survive until one of us finds employment.

Although I didn’t have to drive to an office for an 8-5 day, often like a hamster on a spinning wheel in a cage, I awoke an hour early. I checked the news (today, oh boy). A locally-owned, family run furniture store is liquidating their business. They aren’t the only ones.

I checked the classifieds for yuks. That’s not the way to find work in this economy. More yuks.

I’m taking a three-day weekend to clear my mind. Too many thoughts are racing in my mind like cockroaches scurrying on a kitchen floor when startled by light.

Monday morning, I start my new job. Selling myself. Oops, not prostitution. Selling my abilities, my knowledge and experience. To leave on a bright note, here’s a promo from the movie, The Survivors, where the guy gets fired by a parrot. There is a brief clip of the parrot in the clip below.

And I am a survivor.
