The Tennessean ran a story this morning about psychics and the economic downturn. Here are the responses of some of the psychics:

Carrier: “I don’t believe the economy will turn around anytime soon. There will be pockets of growth followed by pockets of decline. We aren’t going to breathe a sigh of relief until 2012.”Barrett: “I think it will be a long time coming. It will be a roller coaster for the next 18 months, but there will be a steady rise from February to June.”

When will businesses start hiring again?

Owen: “By next Christmas the situation will be better.”

Carrier: “Fall. Starting in late September.”

Barrett: “It will be next summer before the job market really starts to open up.”

Some people predict that doomsday will fall on Dec. 21, 2012, the last day of the ancient Mayan calendar. Is 2012 for real?

Owen: “We aren’t going to sink into oblivion.”

Carrier: “A lot of people really believe that. I just don’t.”

Barrett: “I don’t think it is the end of the world. There will be a major shift of consciousness. If we don’t become more spiritual, more compassionate, more feeling, we’ll see something cataclysmic.”
